Smoking man has died after falling from a balcony in central London, it has been confirmed.
A passerby spotted the man, who was in his 30s, falling down the staircase of the apartment building on St Andrew’s Street, east London.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to St Andrews Street about 12:40pm on Tuesday after a resident reported that a man was smoking a cigarette.
Officers arrived to find the man unconscious and unresponsive on the ground, with the man’s hands on the railing, the Met said.
The man’s name was not released.
Police said he had been pronounced dead on arrival.
The Met said the death was not being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
This story has been corrected to show that the man died at the St Andrew and Westminster Hospitals and Medical Centre, not Westminster and St Andrews St Andrew Street.
